Hershey's Tour de Pink
 |
Amy Johnson was diagnosed in September 2006 at the age of 32 with Stage III breast cancer. Amy had a bilateral mastectomy followed by chemotherapy, radiation, a year of antibody therapy and full reconstructive surgery. Throughout her treatment, Amy learned what an incredible support system she had and that shaving her head was more empowering than waiting for her hair to fall out. She learned that wigs can be fun and no one questioned her when she wore one that was blue and that a mastectomy, while not enjoyable, isn’t the worst thing in the world. After she started working for The Hershey Company, Amy quickly became involved in the Hershey’s Tour de Pink. Her goal is to help serve as an advocate and resource for other young women and to make sure that anyone battling breast cancer has a strong support system. Amy currently resides in Hershey, Pa. Amy has been an employee at The Hershey Company since 2008.
