›› Fearless Females: Charnette Messe
I was always
vigilant about my health starting from a young age. At 24 I asked
doctor after doctor to please check me for cancer. I had pain in
my left breast and the prescription they gave was to stop drinking caffeine and
eating chocolate. They also said I was too young and had no risk factors for the disease. When I was 31 years old I found a lump under my arm. A good
friend, a young breast cancer survivor and mother of three encouraged me to protect myself and demand a mammogram.
Not only was I diagnosed with breast cancer; it
was advanced because it had already spread to the lymph nodes under my arm. I was told I
would not live long enough to see my then three-year-old daughter grow up. The
day after my diagnosis was confirmed I learned I was pregnant. Seven years have now past. My daughter is 10 and my son is
almost 7. My cancer has danced it’s self into my lungs and in and
out of my brain. My beautiful friend is no longer here another
Mommy gone. Fearless I am because cancer is untouchable to me. BRILLIANT I am because I dance with God!
